What Is Inner Wave Pencak Silat?

Persatuan Inti Ombak (Inner Wave Union) is a Pencak Silat Organization that shares the knowledge and philosophy of the external and internal aspects of Indonesian martial arts. The external side of this art is reflected in techniques, such as punches, kicks, blocks, weapons, etc. The internal aspect includes breathing techniques, energy cultivation, and the art of concentration. Pencak Silat has a unique philosophy that sets it apart from other martial arts styles. Pencak Silat puts people first before form or technique. One will have the interest, further down the road, to develop a personal style that maximizes one's strength and body.

During the progression through the belts, students are taught their individual Element and Animal style. After these are developed, Human forms are learned. The combination of these forms and different weapons, make it a full system. Your individual motion and style make it a complete system. Besides these jurus jurus, healing, meditation, and breathing are also explored in the curriculum. However, before any of this is taught, a simple block check routine is developed that can be used in any situation. Techniques are not emphasized as the main focal point of the material, but rather principles that can be applied to make techniques. Thinking in principles doesn't lock you into specific techniques like turn here, point here and wink. Instead Inner Wave Silat teaches principles like circling. Circling can be applied in an infinite amount of techniques. So, when you learn a technique, your motion will be different from your fellow student. However, the principle used will be the same.
